So – as many of you know I’m on the road to minimalism and saying GOODBYE to my debt. I thought when I reduced my cell phone data plan as much as I could without breaching contract that I was on the right road. Turns out, there’s hidden phone monsters that suck up data and boost charges!
I just wanted you ALL to be aware of this in case you also don’t realize this is happening to you!
A loooooong time ago, I downloaded an app called ‘Dice with Buddies’ – basically a fun Yahtzee game you play with other friends who also have the app downloaded. I haven’t played in months, haven’t even opened the app to check it out. When I logged on my Verizon account and saw ALL of my GB was used, I was flabbergasted. Outraged. I haven’t even USED data on my phone – I’ve been using my wifi at home. What the hell!?
Turns out, ‘Dice with Buddies’ was sucking up a HUGE 63% of my data- running in the background. What a crock-o-crap. It was fun to play you, dice game, but you have GOT TO GO!
Now my phone bill is going to be outrageous from data overage charges – but I am aware of the tricks now and uninstalled tons of apps on my phone. Minimalism to the cellular device!
OK- end of Sunday rant! π Have a great day!
Just a word to call your provider; be honest with them, many will waive charges as you are trying to continue working with them. Seriously, it is worth a sincere, professional phone call — most times they will help you!

I try to keep my mobile data turned off until I really need it and there’s no wifi. Just another trick π

Usually there are options to turn of background activity on mobiles. It saves a lot of data and phone battery.

Renee, do talk to your provider. I hope it works.

Get rid of that provider. Use Virgin Mobile. No taxes, no hidden charges. We dropped Sprint three years ago. We went from $160 to $50 a month.

You have to ride it out. We had to wait a few months before we switched to avoid fees. But we have been saving $100s of dollars since. If you only have a few $100 bucks to pay the fees, it might be worth it to switch to Virgin Mobile.

Hi Renee, I am Kaveeta from India. I have long tried to live a minimalistic life too. I want to congratulate you on your efforts. Many people in today’s world do not know the happiness that comes as a perk with minimalistic living. Because, as cliche as it sounds, there is not end to desire!
Love you! π
